Mont Faron cable car

After redesigning the Toulon cable car station layout, 360 was asked to create a new cabin design.

Passionate about popular and timeless public transportation, they wanted to reinforce its warm, family-friendly feel.
The two cabins feature a round LED headlight in homage to Lisbon's trams.
The Mont Faron cable car has been an integral part of Toulon's heritage since its creation in 1959.

In just six minutes, it reaches a viewpoint at an altitude of 600 meters, offering an exceptional panorama of Toulon and its surroundings, particularly its harbor. This harbor once hosted Roman and Greek galleys, Barbarossa pirates, and English ships, and today houses a large part of the French fleet. Climbing Mont Faron means discovering Toulon while immersing yourself in a protected setting, filled with Mediterranean scents.

Taking the cable car is a true journey. When designing the new cabins, the studio placed the visual experience at the heart of the project, allowing everyone to feel immersed in this extraordinary landscape. The design was conceived from the inside out, so that the ascent to Mont Faron offers a complete sensory immersion in the Toulon panorama.

Aware of the powerful symbolism of the old cabins, 360 chose to preserve their formal archetype while increasing the openings to the outside by 50%: enlarged windows, a porthole in the floor, and completely redesigned lighting, both inside and out.

“By incorporating new safety standards—which have tripled since 1959—the new cabins now feature softer, lighter lines. From the floor to the cable and the ergonomics of the control station, everything has been redesigned, while respecting the codes that made these iconic little cabins of the 1950s so popular.”
